Phyllis Teeters, MA, LPC, BCPC, LPN

I am presently teaching Drug Court classes for the Social Work and Criminal Justice Department students at Murray State University.  The classes I teach are not strictly for Drug Court but have an element of the drug court program.  Presently, the classes I teach are:  Introduction to Drug Court; Professionalism, Ethics and Boundaries; Drugs, Abuse and Behaviors; and, Dealing with Difficult People and Other Agencies.

I worked for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Drug Court since 1997 in the capacity of a Program Supervisor for 6 years and prior to my retirement in 2009, as a Regional Supervisor for Western Kentucky.  Prior to Drug Court, I worked in Pretrial Services for the state.

My background includes the following:  20 years in nursing of which 15 years were working in an emergency room in a Detroit, Michigan hospital. Some of the patients entering the ER with substance abuse problems sparked my interest in the substance abuse field.  I wanted to help combat the disease while helping the individual.  I also worked in a Methadone Clinic in the Detroit area as a therapist and later was the director in another Methadone Clinic.

I have a Master Degree in Counseling from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I am Board Certified by the American Psychotherapy Association of which I am a member.  I maintain my credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
